La deshidratación en gatos ocurre cuando hay una pérdida excesiva de líquidos en el cuerpo y no se reponen adecuadamente. Este desequilibrio puede afectar negativamente diversas funciones corporales, desde la circulación hasta la digestión, y puede ser especialmente peligroso para los gatos, dado que no siempre muestran signos evidentes de sed.
Una causa muy común es el calor excesivo ya que los gatos pueden perder mas agua a través de una respiración rápida y superficial con la boca abierta denominada jadeo.
Debemos tener claro que la hidratación en ellos es igual de importante a la de nosotros, cabe resaltar que una buena hidratación garantiza un buen funcionamiento digestivo y evita problemas urinarios a medida que crecen.

Cambio del Agua en Recipiente o Tazón
Si el agua esta en un tazón o recipiente que queda en contacto con el aire todo el tiempo, el agua se debe cambiar a diario y el truco para que se mantenga fresca es colocarle algunos cubos de hielo, algunos felinos sentirán atracción y jugaran con ellos en lo que deciden probar el agua, algunos gatos se sienten mejor con este tipo de tazones.

Cambio de Agua en Bebedero
Si por el contrario el agua esta en un bebedero, (depende de las características de este mismo) se debe cambiar cada dos o tres días, de acuerdo a su exposición con el aire. He aquí uno que permite cambiar el agua al menos una vez a la semana.
